Know the Risk of Crossfit
Why should you listen to me?
-I have participated in crossfit in the past, for about a year and a half actually. I have lifted for about 3 years now, and I have done my research with an open mind about everything I have come across.
Terminology of Crossfit
-WOTD- Workout of the Day
-Olympic Lifts- High intensity lifts used in the Olympics
-EMOM- Every minute on the minute, A type of workout used often in crossfit.
Crossfit Has More Than Just "Side Effects"
Just like any type of weightlifting, crossfit comes puts you at risk of minor injuries. But crossfit comes with a risk of some very dangerous external injuries. This is because of the dangerous Olympic lifts performed at every crossfit session. Also crossfit trainers can be very well trained, or not trained well at all. It only takes one weekend to obtain a degree to coach crossfit. It should take more than one weekend to legally teach rookie weightlifters serious, Olympic lifts that require immaculate form to not injure yourself. Besides the risk of the external injuries, crossfit also comes with a risk of internal injuries. One of the most serious ones is called Rhomboides, or also known as Uncle Rhabdo. This disease is caused by the kidneys over working themselves to failure. They are overworked by the constant demand to filter protein enzymes into the muscles to attempt to heal them. Since crossfit is a full body workout everyday, the kidneys can't keep up with the demands of the body, and they end up over working, and potentially failing. The symptoms of this start with urinating black, or blood, and complete muscle fatigue. This can be treated easily, but if it is bad enough it can potentially lead to death.
